About Cafe Directory: how it works and who it's for
What this directory is
Cafe Directory is an independent guide to cafes in Damansara Utama. We currently list 80 businesses in the area, from the older kopitiam anchors along Jalan SS21 to the newer specialty spots tucked into the shop-lots off Jalan SS22.
We built it for one kind of reader: someone who wants to find a good cafe in Damansara Utama and trust that the results in front of them are based on real data, not paid placement.
Where listings come from
We pull publicly available business data (name, address, contact details, opening hours, category) and pair it with a synthesis of recent Google reviews. We do not republish review text. We summarise sentiment from that data and link directly to each business’s Google listing so you can read the source yourself.
No cafe pays to be included. If a business operates in Damansara Utama and meets our basic listing criteria, it belongs here.
How rankings work
Every cafe in the directory earns its position through our published rubric, which weighs factors including review sentiment, recency of feedback, and consistency of ratings. No human editor overrides the output, and no business relationship influences where a listing sits.

A listed business can contact us to correct factual errors: wrong phone number, outdated hours, a closed branch. We will review and fix those. What a business cannot do is edit its own score, change how its sentiment is described, or move its ranking. Those are determined by data, not by requests.
How sponsorship works
Some listings carry a “Sponsored” label. Sponsored slots appear in a clearly marked, separate section, distinct from the earned rankings below. Paying for a sponsored slot does not change a business’s earned score or its position in the ranked list. A cafe ranked 12th stays 12th whether or not it buys a sponsored slot. The two are fully separate.
Who runs this
Cafe Directory is an independent publication. We have no affiliation with any of the 80 businesses listed, and we receive no fees from Google or any review platform. Our only revenue source is the clearly labelled sponsored placements described above.

- Can a cafe pay to improve its ranking?
- No. Rankings are calculated from public data and review sentiment using our published rubric. Sponsorship is a separate, clearly labelled placement and has no effect on a cafe's earned score or position.
- Where do the reviews come from?
- We synthesise sentiment from recent Google reviews. We do not copy or republish the text of any individual review. Each listing links to the business's Google page so you can read reviews there.
- I own a listed cafe. Can I update my details?
- Yes, for factual information: address, hours, phone number, and similar details. You cannot edit your score, your sentiment summary, or your ranking position. Contact us through the listing page.
- How do I know a listing is sponsored?
- Sponsored listings are labelled 'Sponsored' and displayed in a separate section above the earned rankings. The label is always visible, and the earned ranking list below it is unaffected.
